If you go into the sewers, Gwen should give a little cutscene and you should get your quest updated. And when I looked at the quest/journal I saw him mention that the troll went through the sewers into the mine.

I just utterly wrecked the final boss on normal at approximately level 27-28 with a necro, Gwen using Chain Lightning and Alexia having buff-stacked all kinds of crazy regen. Seriously, buff-stacking outside of a fight is really, really cheesy and makes everything ridiculously easy, especially given the Regain Focus skills which are essentially like free MP healing.
Going to do a hard playthrough now, and keep my necro I think.

I don't know if gear saves, or if it's actually possible to do a successful new game plus, but if gear -does save and my file won't explode, I may try to keep my hands on Ring of Occlusion, particularly in the forest, where battles are kind of a pain in the neck. Graveyard was my favourite grind spot with my three magic users.
