Re: A question about computers.

You can also get to that same area by going into disk cleanup. Go into Windows Explorer, highlight your local disk, and hit alt enter for properties, then you'll find a disk cleanup button. I mention this because the original poster said he was running Windows 8, and that new roundabout way of getting to what passes for disk cleanup now is in the latest version of 10.

Now, as for trying to figure out which files are taking up the most space, the first and probably most obvious step is to empty your recycle bin, again, something you can do through disk cleanup, but I find that that's buggy, at least in Windows 10. It doesn't seem to want to empty the recycle bin that way sometimes, so do it the old-fashioned way. Secondly, there is a way to sort files by size, just go into the view menu, go down to sort by, and click size. You can then see which files are the biggest in a given folder. This shouldn't be too hard if you have folders where your stuff lives, such as the downloads folder, a music folder, etc. That way you can start deleting things you no longer want, then make sure to flush out that recycle bin afterwards. I also completely agree about keeping your biggest, not to mention most important, stuff on some kind of external storage. It's much more convenient, especially if you're a pack rat like me.
