Yeah, EVA is harder, though there are a few work-arounds for that. Fighting is not too bad with a few ship upgrades, though I don't really like doing it by hand, for obvious reasons. Of course, one could argue that it's a good idea to get all the advantages before even thinking of getting into combat. I wouldn't want to try fighting in my Mercury cargo ship, it's way too slow.
