goran yasin, No, the next mission doesn't start automatically, nor are they linked to each other, meaning that you don't need to complete the first mission in order to be able to play the fifth one.
Regarding to your question about how you can find out what your purpose in a mission is, when you've started a mission a text will occur on the screen that will tell you what to do.
