Re: Get me more excited about android than I already am.
Android is an open platform, similar to Windows. I really like the fact that you can install a custom ROM onto devices. A custom ROM is essentially replacing the operating system that came with your device with something else. This has several benefits, one of which is that your device can run the latest version of Android even if the original manufacturer no longer supports it. You also gain the ability to use additional features that weren't present on the stock operating system, as well as the ability to get rid of bloat and other junk apps that might have come with the device.
Android devices can be found at all price points which is really great! I don't like Apple's recent trend of making their devices ridiculously expensive while adding little value, so I probably won't be buying another iOS device unless they come out with another cheap iPod Touch. Apple has disappointed me for years now. They have so much potential that's being wasted on shiny gimmicks no one really needs.
Android isn't just available on phones. The Amazon Fire TV devices run a custom version of Android that allows you to install third party applications via apk files. The nice thing is that as long as the apps are accessible with screen readers and don't use touch gestures, I can use VoiceView and the Fire TV remote to navigate and use the app.
What are those system wide advertisement blockers? I really want to get one. That sounds awesome! I hate! advertisements!
