The reason you can't awaken it is probably because you haven't unlocked devil, magical doll, zombie, ghost or dragon type monsters. They each have different requirements. Or if you have unlocked all of those, it means there are more than eighteen types of monster. If there are, however, then whatever the new monsters are, they don't combine with anything, because I think the current setup is an 18x18 matrix.
