Well, regarding sfx, especially natural sounds, it's really probably better to search for them on the internet. I'm not exactly aware of any special instruments for just those, but it might be completely possible, though I don't think it's something all too common to have a box just for sfx type sounds nowadays.
Regarding samplers I have only real experience with the Korg Microsampler, which I really like, but as stated before, it needs some cleaning on the inside, because those cheep rubber buttons are starting to freak out and not work.
