Re: inadvertent sapi availability drop as 64bit programs become the future

Only because people cling onto ancient technologies for far too long and refuse to use better technologies when they're presented to them. If companies didn't cling onto purely 32-bit everything, they could easily build 32-and 64-bit builds of their products -- its really not that hard (though the testing and debugging time might cost some).
