Re: Manamon 2: Impressions Thread

I don't know, spell/grammar checking the script and stuff shouldn't be something only "hardcore gamers" care about. It's...I mean, if manamon 2 were a book with that kind of dialogue, would you read it? If it were a movie, would you watch it?
I think it's a pillar of the rpg experience that could see some relatively low-effort maintenance and just isn't.
And it's not just these "hardcore gamers", whatever that means, that should care about it, it's anyone who reads and seeks to find some kind of meaning or significance in the plot that isn't hindered by unedited writing.
It doesn't take coding skills to come up with an impactful storyline with relatable characters and realistic motives. It takes coding skills to tie it all together and provide the underlying mechanics platform, sure, and for some games that's all they need, and those games are still excellent games. (This is also not me discouraging rpgs, in case it might feel like it is.)
But it's kind of in the name of a role-playing game, to take up the role of someone you're not and do something with it. Like progress through a story.
So the story shouldn't be discarded as some kind of advanced gamer thing that no casual player should care about. Doesn't that sound counter-intuitive? That a casual player would play an rpg for the g, and not the rp? That's like 66% of the content. tongue
I guess what i'm getting at here is good story is important; a major factor in story is writing.
And I'm also not trying to de-emphasize the significance of mechanics. If you want pure story play choice of games thing or read a book. That's fair. But equally fair is if all you want is mechanics and game, go play chess or Tetris.
Manamon 2 has a clear beginning, and an end, and even a post-game. But isn't it interesting that we still distinguish those things based on the game's story?
