I have no problem with characters in a book being LGBTQ. What I do have a problem with is that being their only defining character trait. If you have a gay character in a book, but pretty much their entire character exists to point out that they're gay, it's pretty obvious the author only put that character there to appease the masses, because as I said if they don't they'll get slammed for it.
