Can I change the license terms or conditions?
Yes—but if you change the terms and conditions of any Creative Commons license, you must no longer call, label, or describe the license as a “Creative Commons” or “CC” license, nor can you use the Creative Commons logos, buttons, or other trademarks in connection with the modified license or your materials. As such, the following terms:
- You can NOT use the music as background music for your own musical work without the artist's consent.
- You can NOT use third-party software to download the video/track, always use our download links
- You MUST contact the artist if you wish to use the music on any kind of project outside of YouTube.
are unenforceable when a cc affiliation is implied.
Turns out I was right. Open and shut CC violation, at least as far as those terms are concerned. If you want a good music/audio hybrid library then get NS Studios's for $70, or some of Andre Louis's stuff.
And if this doesn't make sense to you, think. It's Youtube. How could you not expect them to restrict distribution to only their download links? They probably have a hitcounter that gets them micro-pennies each time someone clicks the link. And why would they let it be used outside of Youtube when videos outside Youtube don't have the possibility of becoming the product, thus no ad-revenue and no papertrail leading back to the original content? Yes, this all adds up and makes sense, what is absolutely not ok is shitting on cc the way they did. But am I surprised? Not really. Big media hates creative commons anyway and will do anything to undermine it, and they do not realize the foolishness of underestimating the fervent and ferocious backing that is the community of content creators and fans of said creators. Sometimes a bizillion bits of civil hatemail directed at big media corp is a bit more influential, if not more powerful, than an over-the-top legal team.
