I'm going to respond to a couple of things in here. In no particular order.
Haily, post 411 merits a caution. This is a personal attack (there's no need for "go fuck yourself" or "be a dick"). I fully understand why you're upset, but you went too far. There are better ways to deal with this.
413: Jimmy69, there is no need to fight fire with fire. Consider this a caution, for precisely the same reasons as above.
414: Deathstar, I'm not issuing a warning or a caution here, but you are treading so close to the line that it's not even funny. To be clear, you're edging into criticism of someone's typing style or word use, which is something that we ask folks not to do. You're also doing it during a tumultuous exchange, which is, to use an analogy I've used before, like dribbling oil on a fire. Even if you're accurate (which you are sometimes), your timing is not good.
And as a couple of final notes:
1. Gender transition is tricky at the best of times. It is hardest on the person going through it, but it can sometimes be difficult for others to adjust. Legal name is not the important thing, and the argument of "your legal name is x, so that's what you're called" is not a stance we're going to honour, not in this clear context. Just because Haily's legal name might be Charles does not mean that we should refer to her as male, or by the name Charles or any prior derivatives. She has made her wish to be called Haily clear, and I expect all of us to do our best to honour that. Honest mistakes happen. Deliberate challenges will be interpreted as malicious. Let's be clear: if you call Haily Charlie, and you clearly do it by mistake or in a very casual way that suggests you just flat-out made a mistake, it happens, and hopefully everyone will work with this. If you put your foot down and decide to keep referring to her as male, or by the name Charlie, then that's going to count essentially as a form of personal attack. Please, just make everyone's life easier, and don't do it. It's not difficult.
2. Haily and Jimmy, please don't spread drama. The reason both of you got a caution in this instance is because you're both doing things that aren't needed. I feel that Jimmy is being needlessly antagonistic, while Haily is building a whole lot of negative press in the very thread which is supposed to be making a good name for her as a developer. Just...bad all around. Stop attacking one another. Stop bringing up topics that are not related in order to toss dirt at one another. If either of you wants your objections, your opinions and your contributions taken seriously, this is absolutely -not the way to ensure that it happens.
