Re: a website with audio described movies.
Sensoring the name of this site that has been posted here multiple times is, in my opinion, absolutely ridiculous. Feel free to put me down as much as you want, but I will always belive in the following statement no matter what:
Film and tv content is one of the largest parts of today's culture. It is so large, in fact, that if you cannot experience some of the most widely recognised pieces within this art form, you are left out on a lot of things. Audio description does wonders to resolve this problem, and allows those with no or trivial vision to access movies and tv in the same way sighted people do. We have just as much right of cultural experience as sighted people do, indeed the right to culture is considered important enough to have a section of its own within the declaration of human rights, which puts it on par with the rights to life, dignity, work and free speech. I am sure that most blind people wouldn't mind paying for all of this content, I know that I wouldn't. If I could just grab a movy off the iTunes store and watch it with AD included, I would always prefer doing this over pirating it. However, because AD, at least the AD which isn't made by streaming services, is far apart and hard to find. Trust me, I tried. I researched companies did the AD for certain movies I already had, and found nothing. No place to buy or order these films/series be it on dvd, download, rent, etc. This is the one major flaw about AD distribution, if you want to get something legally, you'll have a really hard time of it. I can't recall of ever hearing movies with AD being sold at normal movy stores, and when older films get added to various streaming services, they usually don't include AD, even though it does exist somewhere. This state of afaires is simply unacceptable, it denies blind people from participating in film culture, and until this situation changes, downloading content from the sensored site is perfectly understandable. I will understand and not discourage those who feel the same as me, and do not wish to have their fundamental rights taken away from them, when they download content from this site. What the admins of this forum do is not up to me, but your stance on the matter is extreme.
