Try not to think of the axis as one-dimensional (left and right). There's also north and south, so to speak. On the far north, I eelieve, is totalitarianism. On the far south is anarchy. When people think of communism and socialism, they're thinking of more totalitarian communism and socialism, the sorts you might see embodied in governments like China, Venezuela or even Russia. I'm on the other side of that. I'm much, much more anarchic than totalitarian, and believe me, if it was purely a matter of personal feelings, we would not be having this discussion. Folks think I've got some big personal horse in this race, but I don't. If I wasn't an admin, I wouldn't be speaking for or against what's going on, though I'd probably try and help minimize piracy if the existing admins wanted that done. I may well play CP or AA with the sound pack again at some point, but I have huge trouble with hypocrisy, and it would feel a bit hypocritical of me to do that and simultaneously have to speak out here. In fact, topics like this put me in a really tight spot, because on a personal level I loathe that corporations have all these rights, but from a forum-administration perspective, I feel there is little choice but to play safe and by the rules. I am in a position where I feel I must uphold things which, in part at least, go against my own natural grain. Let me tell you, that's a lot harder than some of you folks think.
But no. The answer is not to just stop, either. That's not going to happen. I made the choice to try and join the staff team, knowing that I might end up in positions where I have to push an agenda I didn't personally agree with all the way down. I've made my peace with that. I don't feel upset or resentful, and I'm still proud to hold my position. But it's no walk in the park, as a leftist, as a socialist, to have to do this. But this is bigger than me, bigger than any one of you. I'd rather ruffle a few feathers and have a community, than either taint its reputation or risk bringing down the wrath of folks who have far more power at their disposal than we do, unlikely as that is.
