Greetings at Jayde. The Elemental Attunement unlocks the strongest spells for the selected element.
Fire with Heet waves, ice with Cold snap, and lightning with Lightning Storm.
Also, the reason why you got her all over the place is because you get all the basic spell for a cirtan element. What I mean by this is, if you never bought lightning bolt and just focuses on your fire bolt, you won't get chain lightning. If you buy ice spike, you'll end up unlocking arctic blast.
Edit: In my opinion, Its kind a cool cuz you can customised her to be what ever elemental mage you want her to be, or you can just trained her strength and make her a deadly warrior with some swords and blazing weapon, charge weapon and blest weapon from alexia.
