Ah, because it isn't a script function you're calling, it's an alias, so instead of send to script, you should send to execute so that it will run Mushclient's text processor on it and match that alias.
Just in case that thread had bad examples, the syntax is history_add category=%0. Or you can format it any way you like by putting parentheses around something like .+ or \w+ in your regex. Each grouping made by parens is accessed by %1 through %9. So you could in fact have a category called chat, and when you go to the chat buffer, the messages could be formatted like so: Molly: I'm not doing that again.
