I actually have a blog post written about this because with post-paid plans, you are actually getting an extension of credit that they will take your word for it that you will pay them back as agreed upon. So, the more creditworthy you are, the more likely you are to get better offers. While they don't report to all three credit bureaus, they do check your credit when you initially set up an account with them, both for the credit check, and also for identity verification. This is what the IRS uses when you need to do business with them. If it asks for a phone number, you must have a record of that phone number with the consumer reporting agency.
Here's more information about why post-paid plans are generally better in the long term. I previously thought prepaid plans were better, and that was about six years ago. But after learning about the process of building credit, I realised that there were certain advantages to this, as well.
