Re: Cat owners, help please?
Definitely recommend using a scoop or small hand-shovel or whatever you want to use every day or two, tops. Wear gloves if you're squeamish.
Alternatively, if you find this is awkward, you can get those little poop-scooper bags. They're usually scented. Put your hand securely inside the bag and then look around the box for clumps and other bits. Corral them into one area, then sort of pick them up and shuffle the bag inside out. This may be a bit more accurate, but some people don't like how it feels, and if you're one of those, I don't blame you at all.
I generally recommend washing your hands every time you deal with a litterbox, regardless of how in-depth the process is.
And if your litterbox doesn't self-clean, I recommend changing out all the litter once every two to four weeks, depending on your type of litter, the size of your cat and her habits, and the size of the box.
