Using Sound Waves To Measure Ocean Temperature

As reported by [arstechnica]:

The propagation of sound, and in this case earth quakes, has proven to be remarkably useful in studying a number of things, from the [Humming of Ice Shelves], the [Music of Volcanos], or the faint rumbling of [Mars Quakes].

The latest development is the fine tuning of acoustic instruments to detect the ambient temperature of the Ocean using seismic events to measure the speed of oscillations and how they slow down in warm water, but speed up on cold water.
