In the midst of rage, we found a place in the cosmos.

Is that a pun, you might be asking?  Am I making fun of a title?  Is that called for?  Do I dare, given I'm supposed to highly regard devs?  What kind of person is this Nocturnus, anyway?  Well... I chalenge you to read on and find out!  and I do mean read!  All of it!  If you don't plan to read all of it, don't read any of it!  Seriously, stop right here!  Right now!  If you're not planning on reading it all!  You'll miss a lot if you just cherrypick!  Besides, there's no cherries in this post to pick!  Strawberries?  Maybe strawberries, and maybe bananas, but no cherries!
First, lets just get this little bit out of the way and let it serve as the preface.  If you have read my posts, you probably know that I wrote a less than favorable post concerning this moo; please read post 209 if you want the then nightmarish verdict.  I followed it up on this topic some time later; see post 14.  It's been awhile and a lot has happened.  I had my doubts... I was still skeptical that I could get into it.
but refusing to play a space moo known for its lack of unrestrained, uncontrolable blood thirsty megalomaniacal idiots, and being refused by its close opposing big brother, and wanting to keep my wife company on as many levels as possible through her pain and medical issues, we gave this another try.  I put aside all of my misgivings, and believe me, there were a few and then some... I hate the timeline... I hate the multiple races... I hate the level of out of this world unrealism this game has taken in an attempt to distance itself from all the other space moos currently in existence.  Still, I told myself, the others aren't doing all that great so, what have I got to lose?
As it turns out?  I lost a lot of money! Like, a lot a lot!  Like, $500 a lot!  Know what that means?  It means I'm not being paid to write this; it means I invested!  Even at the time of this writing, I know full well that Dardar and his team will refund more or less every penny I've spent on CR, for up to 14 days if I'm not satisfied, but I don't see myself asking him to do that in the next 14 days, or ever, for that matter.  It means that, in spite of all the weird experiences I've had with it in the past, I still believe.  I don't know what will become of CR as Nightshade and I explore it, and I don't know if we can somehow help it as much as it has helped us during these troublesome moments in our lives, but I do know one thing above all others, and that is that of all the online games I've messed around with, I've never felt more connected to a dev, his staff, and his playerbase than I have on CR.  I'm going to give you ten reasons to try it below, but that one right there is the bonus 11th.
1.  Dozens, upon dozens of activities, and I do believe the list is growing!  Currently I think the moo has well over 50... Fifty?  I could be wrong on that number, but I think it's fifty!
2.  Tons of ways to get ahead!  If you donate, and there are plenty of incentives to do so if you get into the game, you'll get ahead.  If you rp, you'll get ahead.  If you report bugs, you'll get ahead.  If you make suggestions, you get ahead.  If you make friends, you'll get ahead.  If you make babies, you'll get behind, because your babies won't let you play enough.  So leave the baby making stuff to people who really want to be parents and play CR, and you'll get ahead!
3.  but, yes, you can have babies on CR.  Because why not!  And they have more verbs than those on other places I could mention, and you can keep adding to that list!  Provided that you can come up with a good IC reason to have a baby, you can have a baby with no questions asked!  Don't say you picked it out of a landfill... I don't think that'll be considered very heroic or tasteful or... I'm sure you get the point.
4.  Apart from all the activities?  CR is huuuuuge!  I've already raised my rank to 15 and, I kid you not, I don't believe I've even begun to scratch the surface!  I'm not talking just game mechanics as much as I am places you can explore and things outside of gaming that you can distract yourself with!
5.  It's outrageously funny!  Yes, I'm using the word, outrageous, because that's about the only way I can describe it.  You'll see some of the weirdest but most humorous messages!  They're everywhere!  When your char gets saved, when your char's in character creation, when your trash collecting, when you're beating up bad guys trying to take your archeological artifacts, when you try to purchase from people who don't want to sell to you or you're trying to get rid of items people don't want to buy... I'm telling you, even the drones are cheeky buggers!  I'm not even talking laced with prophanity funny... I'm saying take English and use it humorously funny!  I'm talking, for the most part I wouldn't really have issues with my oldest child playing it funny, save for that fact that I do believe they have an age range and... I don't think my kid would be all into a text game anyway.
6.  There are so many ways to comunicate with people that you're absolutely nuts if you dont' take advantage of at least 2 of them!  Not a huge fan of RP?  Fine!  Don't do it!  Ooc all the way!  Want to escape your life for a bit?  Fine, rp!  Tons of places and people to do it with!
7.  The help files are actually helpful, if you're willing to read through them.  They are extensive, but they document everything you will need to get started under most circumstances.
8.  Remember I mentioned unrealism above?  Well, there's a load of awesome realism too!  You can go thirsty!  You can go hungry!  You can be hurt!  You can be poisoned!  You can die!  You can have pets!  Your pets will fight alongside you!  Your baby?  Your babies can stink!  You need to give them baths!
9.  But the unrealism can save you just as much as the realism can.  Remember how I said you can die?  Well, dying has never been sweeter.  Aside from the freaky spammy messages you get for about 3 minutes, you can return to the world more or less unharmed, particularly if you remember to ritualistically and religiously save.  Don't wantt to save?  Donate and the game will do it for you!
10.  And finally?  the time!  Yes, the time!  Do you know what it is to keep at something for five years in the midst of monumental odds?  CR has been at this for that long, and to my knowledge, it's not slowing down.  If it does, your struly will come back immediately and retract this reason.  You have my word!
So, how am I concluding this post?  There are parts of this game I still can't like.  Dragons?  In space?  Driving ships?  Collecting trash?  Talking to humans with translation devices?  I dunno... I just, don't know.  Just the idea of playing alien races is a bit much for me.  Getting started is a bit of a joykill too, if you're trying to go at it entirely solo and with no advice on hand.  If, however, you take advantage of the newbie channel, the mentor channel, the ooc channel to some degree, and yes, support and assist when you get yourself in binds you really just can't get out of and the staff will be thank you very much happy to help you, you really can succeed and have a great time, and that is, in all honesty, what I believe Nathan, his team and his playerbase want you to do.  There's some sort of crazy virus going around right now and they say it's spreading and morphing and mutating into more dangerous variants of itself... I figured I'd spread a bit of satire sprinkled with a touch of good will on the side in hopes of bringing you all to a game you might just end up liking for one reason or another, or for all of the above and then some I haven't listed.  If nothing's doing it for you right now, what have you got to lose!
