I think it's as good a time as any now that we have a central hub for rare and abandonware games, i.e. we've had what mainstream game communities have had for quite some time now, not the least with the retro arcade emulation but with the prepackaged Dosboxes with Dos classics, and the like. Indeed, there seems to be less hesitation on the part of the developers to allow distribution of their older games, since after all a big reason for many of them initially turning it down was simply that they would run he risk of being bombarded with support requests for an obviously dead game. Of course, a reasonable person would come to the conclusion that the game is no longer supported, but on the other hand we never had a stable distribution medium, and were going off of unruly file sharing services. Given that reality, it was both very hard to actually find the games, and very easy for someone to stumble across it and mistake it for a new game. Whereas now we have hte agarchive, which clearly denotes which games are past their prime and unsupported, so as to avoid the possibility of a developer getting annoyed with support requests for their dead project.
