If nothing else, get back to the main door, find the nearest wall and follow it all the way around. As I've said at least twice before now, this method simply will not fail. It takes awhile, but it doesn't fail. It has worked for me in literally every area of the game except one, and that specific area has a simple trick to it (you aren't there yet).

And, I just had a neat thought.

What if, instead of "press the button when you hear the beep" sort of scrolls, we had glyphs? Say each glyph corresponded to an arrow key (but give it a name or something), and then to use a scroll you had to tap the glyphs in the right order? For instance, let's say Aura Master for Ross would entail hitting right, right, down. You would have a shortish window to do this in (maybe two seconds), and then the harder scrolls would be more involved. For instance, with a four-second window, Final Oblivion might be something like this:
up left up right right up d own up right left left down up right right

So you would still have to memorize and be quick, but instead of timing, per se, it's more memorization. If the time window to input the commands is tight enough, and if one mispress would fail the spell outright (no decents anymore, you either succeed or you fail), this might be a more interesting and more unique way to cast magic.
