Re: A Chrono Trigger project
@arqmeister and zkline, thanks for the encouraging words. My main problem is motivation, and that I enjoy jumping around between projects, but hopefully I'll get going on this again and take it a lot further.
I think if I could get even basic navigational aids working I'd get a lot of motivation from being able to wander around the game myself.
@James,
Yeah, if it goes well I plan on doing Final Fantasy 6, 4, and 5 in that order.
Secret of Mana is also a great one, but it is a bit more difficult since it is an action RPG.
I think it's possible though.
Regarding a capture card for a real SNES.
I'd say it's possible, as most things are, but the way I get at and work with video data gives me a higher level of abstraction than getting at the final video product.
I am actually pulling data directly out of VRam and the PPU Chip.
So doing the exact same thing in hardware would be more like saudering a new chip
onto your Super Nintendo motherboard, which I'll classify as impossible.
And using the video capture stuff, while possible, would probably be much slower, and much much harder than what I'm currently doing, which is hard enough.
Sorry it's not better news.
And thanks to whoever plus oned me.
