You're exactly right. It seems like two sepret games, where you have to search and pick up objects in the first game, and in the second game you have to combine items which is just dumped into your inventory from nowhere. The weird thing is that all those objects you need to find doesn't have something with the story to do, and they are not found in your inventory and the items you need to use from your inventory, has not been picked up by searching the locations. While searching, the size of the rooms are always the same, like if you're searching in the same room over and over again.
But, I also like the game, but those things gets quite annoying, especially if you are replaying the game the second time.
