Thanks for your comments Jimmerz. Again, I don't think this is my problem since I hear the same noise on both my Squeezebox 2 and when using Softsqueeze on my PC. When playing the ACC file using iTunes on the same PC then I do not hear the noise. The noise sounds digital to me (plus quiet music is distorted in a 'digital' way) so I do not think my problem is caused by EM interference that you mentioned.
