I wouldn't go that far. After all, our current technology is created through science and engineering. I do agree though that some qualities are not simple to pin down with measurements and specifications. I put most of that down to unaccounted for effects that come into play whenever you start hooking up things to each other -but that is just my pet theory. Keeping this theroy in mind when tweaking the system works pretty well for me though.
