I may try some other regulators. I wonder if things sound better because of "good" distortion or for some other reasons. The LT1085 sounds good to me, so I have little incentive at the moment to go back into that PS and change regulators.
As for snubbers, I have usually heard that term in reference to the rectifier diodes and placing RC networks between the pins to filter some of the switching noise.
