Judging from Seans post I linked on page 9, it's sent to the internal dac as spdif. The conversion is obviously well implemented from the jitter measurements, so doubtfully worth dorking with- especially if your DAC doesn't have I2S input. Before I got SB my plan was to buy the CDpro2 transport and DIY a one box player, in order to take advantage of I2S.
