Phil, That is EXACTLY the difference I hear between the SB3 now and my Sony DVD player/Monarchy Audio DIP....... It also describes to a T the differnce between a regular DVD Player and a PS-Audio Lambda on a good friend's system, each driving coax S/PDIF. Did upgrading to the linear PSU have a significant impact on the S/PDIF sound of your SB2 and where can I get the PSU you use?
