I am of the opposite persuasion. Sources all sound pretty much the same. Put the money in speakers. They are the components with the most different sound from one model/maker to another, even at the same price level.
Don't neglect speaker placement in the room and some acoustic treatment of the room to get best sound. You might discover that your speakers are just fine if you simply reposition them, the furniture, etc. Don't waste money on expensive cables.
