On a tangent, I've heard a pair of $40K speakers being driven by an iPod and $5K worth of preamp/amp sound worse than a pair of $200 speakers being driven by $40K worth of electronics ($25K of which was the amp)...and a $40K system where each component made up roughly equal parts of the budget sound better than both of those systems.
