You'll have to ask Wellborne why they recommend the high current
model for the SB. 

The original Jung design didn't have any opamps, see the description
for: http://www.welbornelabs.com/ps1.htm, the circuit
is similar to the high current version.

FYI- your Power One and the $30. Astec supply(also rated at 9A on the
5V rail) from Salvagetech have an opamp for the sensor circuit. Do you
have the sensor leads connected at the SB end of the power cable?
