The SB3 has an external switched-mode PSU (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Switched-mode_power_supply) which some claim can have a high-frequency noise on the 5V output (hence the ferrite-core on the wire to suppress this), This noise could affect the DAC in the SB3.
