I'm pretty obsessive with tags. I listen mostly to classical and
opera, and tag everything I have extensively - I have multiple tags on
most fields, so I can browse the way I want.

There is -no way- the supplied tags would be appropriate for me - I
would need to change them extensively. I'm happy to do this, so I get
what I want.

What further richness could I add to my tags? Maybe I wanted sleeve
notes for opera, which would display on a handheld device - I can do
this already, by putting a hyperlink to the work's wikipedia page on
the comments, and showing it on my PSP (what a great idea - I may try
this when I get home!). Why would I want to restrict them to what the
record company supplied? What's wrong with reading the CD sleeve
anyway?

Almost no-one else seems to want such complex tags as me - would I be
forced to dumb down, or would others be forced to have my multi-browse
complexity?

The best option is for an open-source system where nice people like
Erland can write cool plug-ins for lunatics like me who browse in odd
ways. Closed systems always pander to the majority, being 'good
enough' but not suitably specialised for picky people. Since the 24/96
market is made up of 100% picky people by definition, you're onto a
loser.
