Actually the AK4396 DAC contains an 8x interpolating filter anyway, so 96kHz data is upsampled to 768kHz before being fed to the delta-sigma modulator. The fact that it's being done within the DAC chip rather than by a separate component in the Transporter really doesn't make any difference.
