Let's see if we can simplify this. The assertion is that converting FLAC to WAV server-side and streaming WAV to the SB sounds different to streaming FLAC to the SB and doing FLAC to WAV SB-side.
Note the word "different" - not "better"... There are 3 possibilities: 1) the additional work the the SB CPU performs in the conversion affects the digital aspect (pre-DAC)of the SB 2) the DAC processing in the SB is affected 3) both 1 & 2 are true. There is a very remote 4th possibility that defies logic but should be stated for completeness: the extra work that the network card/ethernet connection undertakes in streaming WAV into the SB affects the SB... Anyway, if 1 or 3 above are true it would be easy to demonstrate/prove/disprove - simply compare the digital bitstreams from the SPDIF of the SB. If 2 was true then the same test would show no result but a comparison of the DAC output of the SB would show a difference. -- Phil Leigh You want to see the signal path BEFORE it gets onto a CD/vinyl...it ain't what you'd call minimal... ...SB3+TACT+Altmann+MF DACXV3/Linn tri-amped Aktiv 5.1 system and some very expensive cables ;o) ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Phil Leigh's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=85 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=38258 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
