One MAJOR advantage of Toslink over coax (for me) using a WIRED Squeezebox, is that TOSlink isolates my audio setup from potential surges (e.g. lightning strike) coming in via my Cat5 network connection. I am feeding my SB2 to a Benchmark DAC-1, and couldn't appreciate any difference between a quality coax vs. (glass) TOSlink. The optical connection adds an extra layer of electrical isolation for my entire audio chain.
