I agree it's unlikely a newer version is imminent. However, I do hope that Logitech will support continued development at the "high end" and that a 2nd generation Transporter will eventually be released. I own three Squeezeboxes, but will NOT purchase a Transporter until it offers a Home Theater Bypass, so I can use it in place of a preamp.
