My goal was to install a music server in my fairly high end stereo room and then have backround music in the backyard, bedroom, etc
So I Ripped 900 CD's to FLAC Got 2 NAS drives, one for backup Got an Airport Extreme Got several Airport Expresses Only wireless connection is to Airpoirt Expresses - about 20' feet from Airport Extreme I much prefer MediaMonkey software as it, for me, replicates the listening chair experience I am accustomed to of looking at album art, lyrics, who is on the album, etc. MediaMonkey has all sort of add ons that automate getting most of this info. I prefer their display and ability to to change the View ad nauseum. I looked at Slim Server, the Sonus and various other PC products and Media Monkey seemed to be the best fit for what I wanted. The Logitech and Sonus hand held controls are cool I admit but I still didn't get all the info I wanted. There is a product called Airfoil that allows streaming of PC music to the Apple Express. I bought it but am having lots of issues with dropouts - spits, intermittent drop outs up to many seconds. Moved the Airport expresses, etc. Nothing seems to help. This is totally unacceptable to me when I am in Audionerd mode. So my questions are: 1) Is this the nature of the beast, ie wirelees music has lots of dropouts> Am I trying to fix something that hasn't been solved yet? 2) If music wireless is reliable, can other software be used with the Slim gadgets, even if I am not taking advantage of the hand held device? For example, could I use MediaMonkey to talk to the Logitech gadget wirelessly and use my PC as the Controller. Any help/thought/insite is appreciated imdoc -- imdoc ------------------------------------------------------------------------ imdoc's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=15426 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=50122 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
