Yes, that setting switches off the SB's Replaygain processing.

The fact that you have this popping when RG is turned off clearly
indicates that it is NOT an RG issue. There's some other problem that
I'm not qualified to comment about.

This almost certainly ISN'T clipping, but some other issue.

Do you have any other digital sources you can try (eg. CD or DVD
player)? You could try hooking that up to the Kora to see if you still
get the popping.
