The only comment I'll throw into this debate is if you do decide to try and go with a glass optical cable, try and look at the termination before you do. I've got a couple of these "superior" glass cables, but the ends are circular, rather than D shaped, and frankly, the sloppy alignment of the fiber that results, is going to un-do any advantage that the glass cable might have....
