There is absolutely no need to put the power supply in a separate case, I also had it working with the supply close to the amp without any problems. In fact you can by one of their chip amps with the supply built in on the same board. I do think the tube pre is worth adding though, this gave the amp much greater gain than just relying on the volume pot. Also if you can get away with just one input, keep it like that, as it sounds way better.
