One comment: There was NO bit-depth truncation (prior to SOX) - 24 bits were always respected from file through SC-SB-DAC (although some external DACS would truncate!). The "DTS" test proves this.
The introduction of SOX addressed high-quality downsampling, it didn't change the bit-depth handling. DVD-A and SACD players are not allowed to output 24/96 or higher to external DAC's via their spdif as part of the copy protection enforcement. If you want the best reproduction possible, rip DVD-A to hard disk and replay via SB. If you have a Transporter you will get exact replay up to 24/96. Any 24/192 disks will be SOX'ed to 24/96. If anyone knows how to rip SACD at native resolutions, I'd like to know about it. Then I might buy some. -- Phil Leigh You want to see the signal path BEFORE it gets onto a CD/vinyl...it ain't what you'd call minimal...
