75 ohm is today standard for video or spdif

That,s why video or catv coax cable can be used as spdif cables.
They deliberately picked an existing standard.

Video cabling have much better bandwidth and are good for digital
audio.
In fact the demands on the cable is trivial compared to what it has to
do when used for video, in video you can not easily get away with using
cinc instead of bnc connectors for example...

A much better idea then AES/EBU

You can have 50ohm TV cabling in a really old house, you see ghost
pictures with a modern TV :)
