when ripping a 5.1 as 2 ch in DVDAExplorer does the same as dvd-a player is doing when playing a 5.1 ch track as 2ch. Using the downmix parameters provided in the track, this is coming from the disc usually .
>From DVDA explorer manual: "Get Stereo Downmix This is an interesting option, and only applies to a select number of DVD-Audio titles. N.B It does not downmix multichannel tracks to stereo! It makes use of a special feature called "SMART" (System Managed Audio Resource Technique), which is a special way of storing a stereo substream in the multichannel stream. "Coefficients" are placed in the audio stream to determine what information goes into the matrixed stereo downmix. Some titles make use of this feature due to space constraints on the disc. For more info, see http://patches.sonic.com/pdf/white-papers/wp_dvd_audio.pdf, under the "SMART Content and Downmixing" heading. You can determine whether your disc has this feature by checking if there are two substreams, as shown in the right panel track info." Interestingly I'm unsure if Brothers in Arms has this substream it does show only 1 substream but accept to be ripped as 2ch stereo, by the "Get stereo downmix" function ,hmm . It works so maybe the flag is wrong, but it works anyway. DVDA Explorer is not the most well documnented peice of software you find, for some strange reason ;) hard to determine what it is doing, well have no such thing as accurate rip fro dvd-a . -- Mnyb -------------------------------------------------------------------- Main hifi: Touch + CIA PS +MeridianG68J and assorted amps SiriuS, Classe'Primare and Dynadio speakers (including a pair of Contour 4 ) Bedroom/Office: Boom Kitchen: SB3 + powered Fostex PM0.4 Miscellaneous use: Radio (with battery) I use a Controller various ir-remotes and a Eee-PC with squeezeplay to control this ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Mnyb's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=4143 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=78964 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles
