Good point! - What I was referring to is the progression of what one
might refer to as the sound of "fidelity". Being a "rocker", my memory
of "live sound" has been hugely variable! Not to mention how that
memory has been influenced by the types and amount of chemicals in my
brain at the time!

In the process of refinement (tweaks) of my "house sound" I have come
to the conclusion that my system has progressed in fidelity as
exemplified by such qualities as "pleasantness", "lack of harshness",
"definition of instruments", "appropriate size of the music" - one
might call that soundstage -, "more excitement in transients and
quickness". Some of these qualities overlap into the sound of live
music, especially the definition of instruments and good transients. I
agree that it cant get "better" than live sound! Thats the holy grail.
I think we take baby steps (sometimes large steps - ex. big bucks)
toward the goal of live sound, in the improvement of fidelity.

I suppose, now that I think of it, I may also be describing the "house
sound" of the Magnepan. I would say the Maggies are defined best using
the term fidelity, because they do sound so much different than a cone
speaker!
