I now have some 24/96 flac music in my collection and it is
automatically resamples by the
rule

flc flc transcode *
# FT:{START=--skip=%t}U:{END=--until=%v}D:{RESAMPLE=-r %d}
[flac] -dcs $START$ $END$ -- $FILE$ | [sox] -q -t wav - -t flac -C
0 $RESAMPLE$ -

in convert.conf. I'm using an SB3 and I understand that it can only
handle 44.1 so this is normal. However, I have a friend who also has an
SB3 with an outbound dac hooked in via S/PDIF and it is capable of
dealing with 24/96 and it transcodes as well.

How are the limits of the device determined and what should he do to
prevent transcoding?
