Phil is absolutely spot on with his criticism of their technical stupidity. But how many music fans actually understand the technical aspects of hi-fi? As far as they are concerned the technical bits of these reviews are gibberish anyway so they won't have a clue whether they are right or wrong. If the magazine had provided a recommendation based on this fundamental misunderstanding of network protocols then it would be a bad thing, but thankfully in this case it didn't. On this occasion I think the review was fine. After all it gave greatest weight to the aspects that actually matter most to the end user: sound quality, interface and features. ...and sound quality was assessed using a panel listening blind. I wish a few more magazines would do this. It might actually mean that the technical errors and prejudice of the cognitive bias riddled editorial staff can be safely disregarded! -- TheLastMan Matt http://www.last.fm/user/MJL-UK *SqueezeBoxes:* SB Duet (Controller + two receivers) *Server:* Synology DS107+ NAS (with firmware 2.3-1157) running Squeezebox Server 7.5.1 on Synology Package Manager *Network:* Netgear DG834GT ADSL modem/router, 2 x Buffalo WHR-HP-G54 as access points *Livingroom:* Receiver into Naim 42/110 amp, B&W CM2 speakers *Kitchen:* Receiver into Denon DM37 mini-system, B&W 686 speakers *Study:* Linn LP12, Naim 72/Hi-cap/Headline. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ TheLastMan's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=16021 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=90496 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles
