I just love to read someone expounding their ideas about how ethernet packets are being affected by RF and the like, in a way that impacts subsequent packet re-assembly and sound quality in a meaningful and measurable way. Audiphile understanding about networking is generally woefull. I read on What Hi Fi Mag, their moderator and reviewer seriously suggesting that particular powerline plugs gave differing bass and treble responses over others! And folk lapping it up.
What I see mostly is the extension of traditional hi fi end-to-end wiring/tweaking/isolating models etc, to the direct-attach computer audio model - with a sub indsutry springing up people who really want to hear a difference in a SATA cable, or and HDD - or software. But actually if people want to believe cause and effect, and help build niche employment for the tweaking industry, then great. BTW on Apple, I have no problem with peoples love of Jobbs product - I can see exactly why. But when it comes to Apple actually sounding different/better, i laugh. Apple's intent and commitment to sound quality is typified by the crappy white ipod headphones they bundle for their core market. Otherwise their kit uses industry standard PC componentry cpu, HDD, DRams etc, and, although well designed, is still built DOWN to the same cost as the PC industry. Of course that is in turn feeding the computer audio sector's snake oil nichers, beacause they can... Best of luck to them I say. $700 for SW! ha. There will be some well-dressed emperors out there. -- turbot fiend Touch>Classic>Duet>Receiver>Tranquil WHS>Netgear>Devolo Homeplugs+N Extenders>Cyrus PreXPDqx>Dynaudio Focus 110a>Velodyne SPLR ultra 800>Audioengine A5>Audioengine A2>Squeezepad/iPad>HTC Squeezecommander>Soundmatters FOXL ------------------------------------------------------------------------ turbot fiend's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=22691 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=91692 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles
