With age I've reached a point where shrill violin or "trebly" soprano
sax sounds trigger my tinnitus. I can only listen to those types of
music at very low volume. If I try and adjust my sound to subdue this
shrillness the rest of my music becomes plodding, muffled and dull.
I've reached the same point with trying to find the right balance with
my HD TV picture also(too dark, too bright...) 
It's a curse.
